Project overview

Child Protection and Education Initiative

The mid-term evaluation of BSF International’s Community Livelihood Strengthening Program highlighted encouraging progress in household resilience and income generation. A majority of beneficiaries reported adopting improved agricultural practices, with women’s participation in vocational training surpassing initial targets. These achievements demonstrate that the project is on track to meet its objectives, particularly in empowering marginalized groups and diversifying income sources.

However, challenges remain in establishing sustainable market linkages. Beneficiaries expressed difficulty in accessing buyers and securing fair prices for their products. The evaluation recommends strengthening partnerships with local cooperatives and private sector actors, alongside providing refresher training in financial literacy. These adjustments will ensure that the program not only delivers immediate benefits but also builds long-term economic stability for the communities involved.

Project overview

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Improvement Project

The end-line survey of CESVI’s Child Protection and Education Initiative confirmed significant improvements in school enrollment and psychosocial well-being among vulnerable children. Enrollment rates rose by nearly a third, while psychosocial support sessions reached over a thousand children, with most reporting enhanced emotional resilience. Teacher training workshops also proved effective, equipping educators with skills to foster inclusive and supportive learning environments.

Despite these successes, sustaining the gains beyond project closure remains a priority. The survey recommends empowering community-based child protection committees to continue monitoring and advocacy efforts. Additionally, collaboration with local authorities should be strengthened to ensure ongoing support for vulnerable families. Documenting best practices from this initiative will provide valuable lessons for replication in other provinces, ensuring that the positive impact extends well beyond the project’s lifecycle.

Project overview

Community Livelihood Strengthening Program

The baseline survey for BSDO’s WASH Improvement Project established critical benchmarks for water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions in target communities. Findings revealed that less than half of households have access to safe drinking water, while open defecation remains widespread. Hygiene awareness was also limited, with only a quarter of respondents demonstrating proper handwashing techniques. These results underscore the urgent need for interventions to improve health outcomes and reduce preventable diseases.

Based on these findings, the survey recommends prioritizing the construction of community water points and latrines, coupled with intensive hygiene awareness campaigns. Schools and households should be central to these efforts, ensuring that behavioral change accompanies infrastructure development. Establishing a monitoring framework for quarterly progress tracking will allow BSDO to measure improvements against the baseline, ensuring accountability and guiding adaptive management throughout the project cycle.
